Today, March 4th, 2025, we are celebrating World Engineering Day. After 17 years in engineering recruitment, 10 of those with EMBS, I can confidently say the role of the engineer has never been more pivotal.
My specialisation in precision engineering across the Midlands highlights its often-underestimated importance. While AI and space exploration capture imaginations, precision engineering is the silent architect of our modern world. From the microchips in our pockets to the life-saving devices in hospitals, and critically, the safety-critical components in automotive, nuclear and aerospace, it underpins everything.
In the UK, with our proud industrial heritage, engineering is a cornerstone of our economy. A thriving sector fuels innovation, drives exports and creates high-skilled jobs. By bolstering domestic production, we strengthen supply chains and stimulate growth across related industries – a vital ripple effect in our current economic landscape.
The crucial point? Growth is contingent on talent. The future of UK precision engineering hinges on bridging the skills gap. We face a shortage of qualified engineers and technicians, threatening our global competitiveness. As technology accelerates, the demand for specialised skills intensifies.
Great recruitment is paramount. On World Engineering Day, we must champion the diverse and rewarding careers in engineering. We need to actively connect skilled individuals with the companies driving innovation.
Recruitment isn’t just about filling positions. For me, recruitment is about building long-term relationships with clients and partnering with them as they grow.
I have one aim for my clients – finding the right people, with the right skills and placing them in the right roles. I am extremely lucky that my clients celebrate this too and understand the importance of hiring the best.
The intricate work done in precision engineering workshops across the nation is building the framework for the future of the country. As a recruiter I fully understand the power of placing the very best people to help construct it.
This World Engineering Day, I am celebrating the partnerships I enjoy with my engineering clients and looking ahead to developing these further.
