EMBS Engineering is working in partnership with a leading precision engineering manufacturer, located in Derby, that is currently in the market for a Buyer Team Leader to join their company on a Permanent basis.

This market leader is a well-established organisation within the precision engineering industry and boasts a rich history of supporting globally recognised customers with safety-critical, highly complex components.

With manufacturing capabilities spanning across Machining, Fabrication and Assembly, our client is known for agility and advanced capabilities of delivering high-quality, detailed components to the global giants across the Aerospace and Defence sectors predominantly.

Due to internal changes and off the back of continued success, our client is seeking an experienced Buyer Team Leader, and you will be responsible for:

  • Manager procurement of raw materials, sub-assemblies, sub-con services (e.g., anodising, paint), and indirect commodities
  • Lead and support a small team of experienced buyers, including managing holidays, absences, and day-to-day workload
  • Ensure supplier compliance with quality standards (e.g., AS9100); monitor delivery, OTIF, non-conformance, and overall performance
  • Define, track, and report on procurement KPIs; present operational data to SLT on a daily/weekly basis
  • Read and interpret technical drawings to ensure accurate procurement aligned to engineering specifications
  • Support NPI procurement - sourcing new suppliers, obtaining quotes, and assessing lead times
  • Participate in tenders, supplier negotiations, and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Verify order documentation and support Goods Inward with issue resolution
  • Use MRP for procurement and planning
  • Solve problems proactively using initiative, with a continuous focus on quality, delivery, and value
  • Lead purchasing projects, manage inventory, and maintain internal systems in line with company policies


Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • ​​​​​​​Background in precision engineering or advanced manufacturing, ideally within highly regulated industries (e.g. aerospace, automotive, defence), that have manufacturing capabilities of either machining and/or fabrication
  • Proven leadership experience as a manager, team leader, or supervisor in a procurement or supply chain setting - Mentoring experience also applicable
  • Strong track record in procuring Raw materials, sub-assembly machined or fabricated components, tooling, as well as every day commodities 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings to procure to exact specifications
  • Skilled in supplier risk management, including: Conducting supplier risk assessments, evaluating business impact and using supplier scorecards to monitor performance
  • Experience in inventory management
