Junior Test Engineer - Networking
Location: Derbyshire - Fully Onsite
Salary: £25,000-£32,000 DOE + Benefits
Employment: Permanent
Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance
We're working with a specialist technology and engineering business in Derbyshire that is looking to add a Junior Network Test Engineer to its growing Test and Integration team.
This is a great opportunity for a graduate, apprentice leaver or early-career engineer looking to build hands-on experience across networking, software testing, systems integration and cyber security technologies.
You'll work alongside experienced software, hardware and test engineers, receiving support and mentoring while developing practical experience of testing complex networking products and integrated systems.
The role would suit someone who enjoys understanding how technology works, investigating problems and getting hands-on with different systems rather than simply following a set process.
What You'll Be Doing
Testing networking products, software and integrated systems.
Carrying out functional, regression and integration testing.
Working with test plans and structured test procedures.
Recording test results and documenting defects.
Investigating technical issues and helping identify their cause.
Working alongside software and hardware engineers to resolve problems.
Supporting product validation and evaluation activities.
Helping set up and maintain test environments.
Building practical knowledge of IP networking and network security.
Developing your knowledge of testing, troubleshooting and systems integration.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally have a degree, HND, apprenticeship or equivalent technical qualification in an area such as:
Computer Science
Cyber Security
Network Engineering
Software Engineering
Electronic Engineering
Another relevant STEM discipline
You should also have a good foundation in networking, including:
TCP/IP.
IP addressing and subnetting.
Switching and routing.
VLANs.
DHCP and DNS.
Basic network troubleshooting.
Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows.
We're not expecting you to know everything from day one. More important is a genuine interest in technology, good problem-solving skills and the willingness to investigate and learn.
Useful Additional Experience
Any exposure to the following would be beneficial, but isn't essential:
Python or another scripting language.
Wireshark or packet analysis tools.
Software or systems testing.
CCNA, Network+ or similar networking certifications.
Cyber security or network security technologies.
About You
You'll be someone who is naturally curious about technology and enjoys finding out why something works - or why it doesn't.
You'll need good attention to detail, a methodical approach to testing and the confidence to investigate technical problems. You'll also be working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, so good communication and teamwork are important.
Security & Location - Due to the nature of the projects, candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
This is a fully onsite role in Derbyshire.
If you're starting your career in networking, cyber security, software or engineering and want an opportunity where you can build strong hands-on technical experience, please get in touch for further details.
