HSE Manager
Northamptonshire
Permanent, Full-time
Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm

Role overview

A long-established, family-run engineering and fabrication business near Wellingborough needs an HSE and HR Manager to own both functions. With around 90 staff, this is a hands-on role reporting to the Directors and Company Accountant, with real autonomy. They want someone practical who fixes issues rather than just reporting them, splitting time between the shop floor and the office, supported by BrightHR and BrightSafe.

What’s in it for you?

  • Monday to Friday, days
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, around fixed shutdowns
  • Pension, annual salary review, healthcare and life assurance after qualifying service
  • Family business that promotes from within
  • Free instructor-led AI training through EMBS Talent

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review HSE policies, systems and legislative compliance, including ISO 14001 where applicable
  • Run risk assessments, inspections, audits and incident investigations (including RIDDOR)
  • Oversee statutory inspections, occupational health, PPE, fire safety, environmental compliance and training
  • Run day-to-day HR: contracts, policies, handbook, recruitment, onboarding, probation and leavers
  • Manage employee relations, including disciplinaries, grievances, absence and performance
  • Administer BrightHR and BrightSafe, turning their advice into practical actions
  • Produce HR and HSE reporting and give the Directors clear, concise recommendations

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

Essential

  • Proven combined HSE and HR experience, ideally in manufacturing or engineering
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of UK health, safety, environmental and employment law
  • End-to-end employee relations experience
  • Confident with risk assessments, inspections and investigations
  • Organised record-keeping and a practical, commercial approach

Desirable

  • CIPD Level 3 or 5; NEBOSH Diploma; IOSH membership
  • Experience with BrightHR/BrightSafe or similar (Peninsula, Citation, Croner)
  • ISO 14001 / 45001 experience
  • Metal fabrication, defence or heavy engineering background
