What do employees truly value in company benefits?
The world of company benefits can often feel like a box-ticking exercise, filled with promises that fall flat under scrutiny.
In our industry we have seen more benefits than most. There are the job ads boasting the bare minimum – 20 days holiday plus bank holidays. Then there is the token pool table, a bowl of slightly bruised fruit and the ever-vague ‘flexible working’ that often translates to rigid core hours.
It’s time to get real about what truly constitutes a valuable company benefit. These aren’t fleeting, superficial gestures. They are fundamental aspects of a workplace that genuinely improve work-life balance and demonstrate a deep-seated care for employees.
So, in 2025, what does a meaningful benefits package actually look like?
Providing ample time off allows employees to truly recharge, pursue personal interests and maintain a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives. This demonstrates trust and acknowledges that employees have lives outside of work.
Recognising the importance of mental well-being is no longer optional. Offering access to resources like therapy, counselling or mindfulness programmes shows genuine care and fosters a supportive environment where employees feel comfortable seeking help.
Investing in employees’ growth through training, mentorship programmes and opportunities for advancement demonstrates a commitment to their long-term success within the company. This not only benefits the individual but also strengthens the organisation as a whole.
Ensuring that salaries reflect an employee’s experience, commitment and contributions is fundamental. Regular pay reviews demonstrate that the company values its talent and is committed to fair compensation.
This is perhaps the most crucial ‘benefit’ of all. A culture where people feel respected, valued and genuinely want to be goes beyond perks. It fosters collaboration, encourages open communication and creates a positive and engaging atmosphere.
Companies that understand and invest in meaningful benefits are not just ticking boxes. They are building a foundation for a thriving and engaged workforce, ultimately leading to greater success for everyone.
