With more than two decades of experience in the East Midlands, EMBS is always looking to provide insights that help our clients attract and retain top engineering talent.
A recent global survey by Randstad, polling 26,000 engineering professionals (including 500 from the UK), reveals a significant shift in what motivates today’s workforce – and it’s far more nuanced than just salary.
More than half (52%) of engineering professionals would happily trade higher salaries for better workplace benefits like gym access or childcare. This isn’t just about financial compensation anymore. It’s about the holistic package you offer.
A striking 50% have already accepted lower pay for a role they find more meaningful. This speaks volumes about the desire for purpose and impact in their work. Furthermore, 84% cited work-life balance as their top priority when considering new opportunities. In fact, a significant 58% would even leave a job if they didn’t feel a sense of belonging.
This is a workforce that’s also looking ahead. 78% feel ‘future-ready’ to embrace new technologies like AI in their roles. They’re keen to evolve and stay at the cutting edge.
It is a story EMBS is increasingly seeing. Our candidates in the engineering sector are often not making career decisions based solely on salary or job content. They’re seeking roles that fit their lives and reflect their values.
So, what do employers in the East Midlands need to do to secure the best engineering talent?
Ultimately, employers who invest in both personal alignment and professional growth will lead: not just in retention, but in innovation.
At EMBS Talent, we’re here to help you navigate these evolving expectations and craft compelling offers that attract the engineering talent your business needs to thrive.
