EMBS founder Simon Bucknell launches GENX Talent to champion experience in tech.
For many years the unspoken truth in the tech industry has been a frustrating reality – ageism. Many experienced professionals, particularly those in the Gen X demographic, have felt the sting of being overlooked not for a lack of skill, but because we don’t fit a narrow, youthful perception of what a “tech professional” should look like.
EMBS founder Simon Bucknell saw this problem and, after a simple LinkedIn post a few weeks ago, was met with an overwhelming chorus of agreement and desperation. It became clear that this issue was bigger than a few isolated incidents. It was a systemic problem.
Statistics paint a stark picture of the challenge. A study by CWJobs revealed that 41% of tech workers in the UK have experienced age discrimination, compared to just 27% in other industries. Even more shockingly, tech workers report first facing ageism at an average age of just 29, more than a decade earlier than the national average. This bias is not only hurtful, but it’s also a significant waste of talent. Experienced professionals are being discarded like yesterday’s technology, not because they can’t do the job, but because of a flawed perception that experience is a liability.
Gen X Talent is not just another job board. Simon and the team have created a community and a movement dedicated to connecting the wisdom of experienced professionals with opportunities that genuinely value it. The free job platform allows employers to post roles specifically looking for the depth of knowledge, resilience and problem-solving skills that only come with years of experience. Experience can often beat enthusiasm when it comes to delivering results, and EMBS’s mission is to prove it.
Speaking of the new GenX Talent platform, Simon said: “The response has been incredible. Jobs are already flowing in, candidates are signing up and the success stories have begun. We’re building something that will outlast economic cycles and technological shifts. A community that understands the value of a professional who has navigated a career through political changes, market downturns and countless waves of disruption.”
If you’re an employer ready to post a job that values wisdom, not just youth, post it with GenX Talent. If you’re a professional looking for an employer who truly “gets it,” join our community. This is just the beginning.
