The EMBS team has decades of experience and can offer expert interview tips. Turning an interview into a job offer requires more than just showing up. As leading recruitment specialists across the Midlands, EMBS has witnessed countless interviews. We’re sharing our insider secrets to help you shine.

Preparation

Think of an interview as a performance needing rehearsal. Research the company and industry beyond a quick website glance. Understand their projects, trends and achievements to demonstrate genuine interest and stand out.

Logistics are key. Research the location and be punctual, aiming to arrive five to 10 minutes early. This shows respect. Dress appropriately in smart, professional attire unless advised otherwise. If coming from work, acknowledge this to manage expectations.

Building Connection

Once in the room, find common ground by observing your surroundings for potential conversation starters, easing tension and showcasing your personality.

Speak clearly and enthusiastically, maintaining good posture. Don’t rush answers; take a moment to understand the question fully before responding thoughtfully.

Highlighting Your Unique Value Proposition

Before the interview, define your USP. What makes you the ideal candidate? How will you add value? Be ready to articulate achievements where you’ve gone above and beyond.

Thoroughly review the job description, preparing concrete examples of relevant experience. Identify the three to five critical success factors for the role and tailor your examples accordingly.

Insightful Questions

Prepare your own questions to show genuine interest and gather crucial information. Consider asking about elaborating on answers or addressing any reservations. Inquire about company culture and what makes it a great place to work.

Maintaining Professionalism and Confidence

Remain professional and keep your integrity, especially when discussing previous employers.

Make eye contact and be confident in your abilities and experience. Remember the difference between confidence and arrogance – always show a willingness to learn.

Key “Don’ts” from EMBS

Avoid chewing gum, overpowering scents, badmouthing former employers, making pay your first question, phone interruptions, dwelling on past negative interviews, casual behaviour and swearing.

By following these EMBS expert tips, you’ll be well-prepared to impress, navigate your next interview confidently and significantly increase your chances of securing your desired role in the Midlands and beyond.
