Overview
EMBS Engineering Ltd is working in partnership with a well-established precision engineering manufacturer based in Derby, operating within the aerospace sector. The business has a strong track record of delivering safety-critical, highly complex components to globally recognised customers and is now looking for a Quality Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis.
This is a varied, hands-on quality role that spans inspection, supplier quality, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations to uphold and develop the quality management system and support the business in its journey towards AS9100 certification.

Responsibilities
Carry out first-off and last-off inspections using mechanical measuring equipment.
Act as a release signatory for procured components and outgoing shipments.
Lead First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102.
Manage root cause analysis activities using 8D and 5 Whys methodologies.
Maintain calibration of inspection equipment and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Contribute to control plans, PFMEAs, and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
Support supplier evaluations, performance monitoring, and customer non-conformance management.
Participate in internal and external audits to support AS9100 certification and QMS development.
Promote a right-first-time culture and participate in Lean and 5S initiatives.
Skills and Experience
Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:
HNC or equivalent in Engineering, or substantial experience in an aerospace quality environment
Minimum five years of experience in mechanical inspection and/or quality engineering
Strong practical experience with inspection and measuring equipment
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Knowledge of machined parts, finishing processes, and workmanship standards
Solid understanding of AS9100, AS9102, and inspection sampling plans
Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies including 8D and RCCA
Familiarity with quality tools such as PFMEA, control plans, and statistical analysis
Experience using microscopes for inspection and defect detection
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings clearly to Engineering and Operations teams
A proactive, self-motivated approach with excellent time management and organisational ability
Full UK driving licence (travel within the UK may be required)
Must be a UK resident; visa sponsorship is not available
