Grid Consultant Permanent | Remote / Hybrid | Milton Keynes & London
The role
Following a period of strong growth, our clients are seeking an experienced Grid Consultant to join a specialist grid consultancy team. This is a customer-facing position providing expert grid consultancy to external clients across the full spectrum of distribution and transmission connections — commercial, technical, regulatory and market-related.
The role would suit someone with a grid connections management background at a developer, ICP, network company or consultancy. You'll also provide commercial, technical and project management support to a private networks business operating in the unlicensed market.
What you'll be doing
- Providing expert grid advice to external customers across technical, commercial, regulatory and market matters
- Managing grid connections for portfolio customers from feasibility through to pre-construction
- Assessing grid connection feasibility and producing application and offer documentation
- Scrutinising, challenging and optimising grid connection offers on behalf of clients
- Undertaking grid connection due diligence reviews and RAG reporting
- Representing customers with DNOs, TOs and NESO
- Navigating grid connection challenges and developing novel solutions to progress connections
- Monitoring the regulatory landscape and keeping abreast of key developments such as Connections Reform and Clean Power 2030
- Managing pipeline and workload effectively, communicating with customers, upstream network operators and the wider business
- Supporting key account management of EHV pipeline projects during the project development stage
- Managing milestones, critical path items and IDNO interface negotiations with host TOs and DNOs
- Contributing to business development, quoting activities and industry workgroups
- Owning and maintaining key data within company business management systems
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Robust technical and regulatory knowledge of the GB grid, including recent developments
- Strong understanding of the connections process and contracts at distribution and transmission level
- Experience in project development and management relating to grid connections
- A track record of securing viable grid connections and delivering expert grid advice
- Experience undertaking technical due diligence
- Confidence to challenge network operator assumptions and standards to drive efficiencies
- Ability to work independently and prioritise effectively in a fast-moving environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical audiences
Desirable:
- Consultancy experience, including scoping requirements and preparing proposals
- Engagement with industry initiatives and workgroups
- A strong network of industry contacts
- Full UK driving licence
