The role

This is a key position carrying accountability for regulatory policy engagement and industry consultation across the UK energy sector. Working closely with the Director of Regulation, Policy & External Affairs, the Policy Lead will monitor regulatory developments, analyse emerging policy changes and support the organisation's responses to consultations and regulatory initiatives.

The role will ensure strong awareness of policy developments affecting electricity networks, energy infrastructure and the wider energy transition. Through research, analysis and engagement with industry forums, the Policy Lead will help position the business effectively within an evolving regulatory environment — providing clear insight that informs strategic decision making across the group.

What you'll be doing

Regulatory and policy monitoring:

  • Monitoring regulatory developments, consultations and policy changes affecting the UK electricity and energy infrastructure sectors
  • Tracking developments from organisations including Ofgem, DESNZ, NESO, ENA, Distribution Network Operators and Transmission Owners
  • Providing regular updates and briefings to internal stakeholders on emerging regulatory changes
  • Identifying risks and opportunities arising from regulatory change

Consultation responses and policy engagement:

  • Supporting the development of responses to regulatory consultations and policy initiatives
  • Coordinating input from across the organisation to ensure responses reflect operational, commercial and strategic perspectives
  • Drafting consultation responses, briefing papers and policy position documents
  • Supporting representation at industry consultations and working groups

Policy analysis and strategic insight:

  • Analysing regulatory frameworks and policy proposals affecting electricity networks, infrastructure delivery and energy markets
  • Preparing internal briefings that support leadership decision making
  • Supporting the development of policy positions aligned with strategic priorities

Industry engagement:

  • Supporting participation in industry forums, regulatory working groups and policy discussions
  • Building working relationships with policy teams across regulators, network operators and industry bodies
  • Contributing to collaborative initiatives that support improvements in the regulatory environment for energy infrastructure

Internal coordination:

  • Working closely with delivery, engineering, commercial and strategy teams across the group
  • Ensuring regulatory insight and policy updates are communicated clearly across the organisation
  • Supporting internal stakeholders in interpreting regulatory developments and understanding their implications

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of the UK energy sector or regulated infrastructure industries
  • Experience analysing regulatory policy or working within regulatory frameworks
  • Strong research and analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex policy documents
  • Excellent written communication skills, including drafting consultation responses and briefing papers
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to track multiple policy developments simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory topics clearly to a range of audiences

Desirable:

  • Experience working with organisations such as Ofgem, DESNZ, ENA, NESO or electricity network operators
  • Understanding of electricity network regulation, grid connections or energy infrastructure development
  • Experience supporting regulatory consultations or policy engagement
  • Background in energy policy, regulation or infrastructure sectors

What kind of person fits here?

You're intellectually curious and thrive on keeping across a fast-moving regulatory landscape. You take ownership of your work, communicate with clarity and confidence, and enjoy collaborating across teams to turn complex policy developments into practical insight. You're forward-thinking, reliable and motivated by making a genuine impact in the energy transition.
