Director of Energy
Ireland
Permanent
Competitive salary (dependent on experience) + package

Overview

EMBS is working in partnership with a Tier One infrastructure services business entering the Irish power and renewables market, located in Ireland, that is currently in the market for a Director of Energy to join their company on a permanent basis.

This market leader is a well-capitalised, growth-oriented entity with strong shared service foundations in finance, HR, safety and commercial functions, and boasts the backing and stability of an established organisation behind a genuine greenfield build. Ireland's power and renewables sector is in the middle of a generational transformation — grid infrastructure investment is accelerating, and offshore wind, solar and EV charging networks are scaling at pace. This is a rare greenfield leadership opportunity to define the market for the next decade.

What's in it for you?

Stability / Longevity: A true greenfield build with the backing of a well-capitalised, established organisation — board-level commitment, direct access to the CEO and full executive support to move quickly.

Competitive salary: Dependent on experience, plus a senior leadership package with P&L ownership.

Hours: Days

Benefits: A once-in-a-career opportunity to build a division of real scale in a growing market, with the operational infrastructure and shared service model of an established business behind you.

Responsibilities

Off the back of a strategic, board-backed decision to enter the Irish power and renewables market, our client is seeking an experienced Director of Energy to take full ownership of the Irish power division — from market entry strategy to day-to-day operations, from business development to financial performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

As a Director of Energy, reporting directly to the CEO, you will not be stepping into an established division with existing teams, processes and clients — you will be creating one, from strategy through to service delivery, from first client conversation through to P&L ownership.

You will:

  • Define which segments of the Irish power and renewables market the business will serve, set short-term objectives and longer-range goals, and build the plans and policies to support them — with market traction expected within the first 12 months
  • Develop the skills and resourcing plan to meet the power strategy, and hire, train, onboard and deploy operational management and field crews
  • Integrate the division into the wider business through the shared service model and drive continuous improvement from the outset
  • Own the P&L — working alongside the CFO on funding, working capital, budgeting and audit compliance — and set and meet targets for revenue, gross and net margin, and EBITDA
  • Network widely, build the brand in the target market, oversee tender submissions and engage directly with senior client stakeholders
  • Lead by example, setting the highest standards for safety, service delivery and operational excellence, and protect and develop a positive, high-performance culture

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum of five years' general management experience in a power industry services environment
  • A proven track record of building and leading teams in a growing organisation
  • Direct experience working with ESB Networks
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen — comfortable owning a P&L and presenting to a board
  • Experience managing client relationships from pre-works through to project completion
  • First-class leadership ability, with a genuine network in the Irish power and renewables market
  • Confidence representing the business at the most senior levels with clients, partners and industry bodies
  • A safety-first mindset — a commitment to industry-leading standards, not just compliance
  • Numeracy and IT literacy, comfortable with MS Project, Word, Excel and Outlook

If you are interested in the opportunity of Director of Energy and believe you meet the illustrated criteria, apply today to join our client on a once-in-a-career greenfield leadership opportunity in the Irish power and renewables market.
