Director of Energy | Ireland | Power & Renewables |

EMBS talent is recruiting a Director of Energy for a Tier One infrastructure services business entering the Irish power and renewables market. A rare greenfield leadership opportunity.

Director of Energy

Ireland | Permanent | Senior Leadership | Power & Renewables

The Opportunity

Ireland's power and renewables sector is in the middle of a generational transformation. Grid infrastructure investment is accelerating. Offshore wind, solar, and EV charging networks are scaling at pace. And Tier One service providers who position themselves now stand to define the market for the next decade.

We are hiring on behalf of a major infrastructure services business to find the leader who will take them into this market — and own every aspect of that journey.

This is a Director of Energy role. A true greenfield build. You will not be stepping into an established division with existing teams, processes, and clients. You will be creating one — from strategy through to service delivery, from first client conversation through to P&L ownership.

If you have spent your career in the power services industry, if you know the Irish market, and if you are ready to build something of genuine scale — this is the role you have been waiting for.

About the Business

Our client is a well-capitalised, growth-oriented infrastructure services business with strong shared service foundations in finance, HR, safety, and commercial functions. The decision to enter the Irish power and renewables market is backed at board level, and the incoming Director of Energy will have direct access to the CEO, full executive support, and the operational infrastructure to move quickly.

This is not a startup. But the power division will be built as one — with the backing and stability of an established organisation behind it.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Energy will have full ownership of the Irish power division — from market entry strategy to day-to-day operations, from business development to financial performance.

Strategy & Market Entry You will define which segments of the Irish power and renewables market the business will serve, which services it will offer, and how it will position itself against established competitors. You will set short-term objectives and longer-range goals, and build the plans and policies to support them. Market traction within the first 12 months is a clear expectation.

Operational Build-Out You will develop the skills and resourcing plan to meet the power strategy. You will hire, train, onboard, and deploy operational management and field crews. You will integrate the division into the wider business through the shared service model, and drive continuous improvement from the outset.

Commercial Performance You will own the P&L. Working alongside the CFO, you will ensure the financial structure of the division is sound — funding, working capital, budgeting, audit compliance. You will set and meet targets for revenue, gross and net margin, and EBITDA, and report directly to the CEO on divisional performance.

Business Development & Client Relations You will network widely, build Secto's brand in the target market, oversee tender submissions, and engage directly with senior client stakeholders. Customer care will sit at the centre of everything the division does.

Leadership & Culture You will lead by example — setting the highest standards for safety, service delivery, and operational excellence. You will protect and develop a positive, high-performance culture, and promote the company's values at every level.

What We're Looking For

Essential experience

  • A minimum of five years' general management experience in a power industry services environment
  • A proven track record of building and leading teams in a growing organisation
  • Direct experience working with ESB Networks
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen — comfortable owning a P&L and presenting to a board
  • Experience managing client relationships from pre-works through to project completion

Skills & personal qualities

  • First-class leadership ability — a leader who inspires confidence at every level of the organisation
  • A genuine network in the Irish power and renewables market
  • Confident representing the business at the most senior levels with clients, partners, and industry bodies
  • Safety-first mindset — a commitment to industry-leading standards, not just compliance
  • Numerate, IT literate, and comfortable with MS Project, Word, Excel, and Outlook

Why Now

Ireland's energy transition is not a future event — it is happening now. The ESB Networks investment programme, the renewable energy targets, the grid modernisation agenda — all of it is creating sustained, long-term demand for Tier One power services providers.

Our client has made a strategic decision to enter this market at exactly the right moment. The Director of Energy they appoint will have a once-in-a-career opportunity to build a division of real scale, in a market that is growing, in a business that is fully committed to making it work.
