Managing Quantity Surveyor
Oxford (hybrid, 2–3 days on site)
Permanent
Up to £88,000 + £8,000 car allowance + 10% bonus + family private medical

Overview

EMBS is working in partnership with a family-owned infrastructure contractor, located near Oxford, that is currently in the market for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their company on a permanent basis.

This market leader is a well-established entity marking its 75th year and is one of only around 5% of UK businesses to hold Platinum Investors in People, with water among the disciplines it has delivered longest. A wastewater treatment framework near Oxford has had its pricing programme pulled forward by six months, leaving the commercial team needing a Managing QS who can take a scope of work and run it properly — CVRs, change, the lot — feeding into the framework lead rather than being managed over the shoulder.

What's in it for you?

Stability / Longevity: Committed work, not hoped for — this sits on a long framework with a multi-year order book behind it, so it is not a twelve-month punt, backed by a family-owned contractor in its 75th year.

Competitive salary: Up to £88,000, plus £8,000 car allowance, 10% bonus and family private medical.

Hours: Days

Benefits: Hybrid working — two to three days on site and remote the rest, with offices near London and in the Midlands available on your other days. A genuine circular-economy project too: a phosphorus removal cycle, digestion tanks turning waste into biomass for local farms, and gas generation built into the process.

Responsibilities

Off the back of a framework pricing programme brought forward by six months, our client is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to own their packages properly and feed clean commercial reporting into the framework lead.

Your responsibilities will include:

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of a scope of work and run it end to end, rather than being one reconciliation among many on a programme you never see the top of.

You will:

  • Own the cost value reconciliation on your packages
  • Manage subcontract accounts and payments through to final account
  • Run change and keep the commercial reporting clean for the framework lead
  • Help bring on a younger commercial team who will learn a lot from someone who has done it properly

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • CVR experience on infrastructure projects — water is ideal, but an adjacent regulated or complex sector is fine
  • Strong NEC contract experience, able to talk through the options you have worked under and where they bit
  • A tier-one or major contractor background, so you understand how framework reporting and governance actually work
  • Around 7 to 10 years in commercial roles

Please note: candidates who are JCT-only, or whose background is highways maintenance or fit-out, will not be the right fit for this particular role.

If you are interested in the opportunity of Managing Quantity Surveyor and believe you meet the illustrated criteria, apply today to join our clients' growing team located near Oxford.
