Overhead Line Network Designer
Permanent · Full-Time | Dublin, Cork or Kerry (Ireland & UK projects)

We are partnering with a leading utility contractor to recruit an Overhead Line Network Designer for their expanding Design Department, working on electrical infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK.

This is a permanent role combining office and site-based work, suited to professionals from a range of backgrounds — grid construction (overhead or underground), land surveying, project management, or civil, structural or mechanical engineering — who bring solid experience in their discipline. Office duties can be based across three regional offices, and as the business operates nationwide, regular travel in a company vehicle is required, with occasional overnight stays.

What you'll be doing

  • On-site stakeholder negotiations, including land access and liaison with landowners and members of the public
  • Distribution overhead line grid design (or a detailed understanding of same), GPS surveying and setting out
  • Feasibility and progress reporting, compilation of Health & Safety documentation, and quality assurance checks on constructed works
  • Implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 procedures across project activities

What we're looking for

  • Relevant industry experience in grid construction, land surveying, project management, or civil/structural/mechanical engineering (hands-on experience carries significant weighting)
  • Familiarity with ESB Networks design and construction standards — essential
  • Knowledge of the overhead line industry — a distinct advantage
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to represent the business professionally to landowners and the public
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel; strong IT skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and comfortable working both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Full driving licence (regular nationwide travel required)

The package

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
  • 23 days annual leave, plus flexible working arrangements
  • Health insurance discount, life assurance and 24/7 wellbeing support (LAYA EAP)
  • "Career Pathway Programme" with strong emphasis on training and progression
  • Voluntary pension scheme and sick pay (on completion of probation)
  • Standard industry training from day one, monthly performance recognition and an employee referral scheme
