My client is seeking a fractional CTO, an experienced software technology leader, to join their team and guide their technical strategy. This exciting role will involve overseeing an external consultancy to re-platform legacy code, ensuring scalability, and providing strategic input to shape the technology roadmap. Knowledge of Python and AWS is essential.

Location: Remote (UK-based) with occasional travel to London (expensed)
Days: 2-3 Days Per Week / 6 Months (Outside IR35)
Day Rate: £1000 - £1200

About the Role

You’ll be at the forefront of re-architecting my client’s systems, ensuring they are scalable and future-ready. From managing the re-platforming project with external partners to driving the overall technical vision, your expertise will make a tangible difference. This role combines strategic direction, project oversight, and hands-on collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

 
  • Fractional Leadership: Provide strategic guidance on technical direction and future scalability.
  • Legacy Code Re-Platforming: Oversee an external consultancy to ensure the seamless migration of legacy systems to modern, scalable architectures.
  • Project Oversight: Manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables to guarantee project success.
  • Data Expertise: Implement best practices in data management and analysis for large-scale projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and outsourcing partners to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Technology Roadmap: Shape the technology strategy to meet future organisational needs and opportunities.
  • Team Mentorship: Foster collaboration and provide guidance to internal teams and contractors.

What You’ll Need
 
  • Strategic Leadership: Experience in fractional or consultancy roles with a proven ability to guide technical strategy.
  • Software Expertise: Strong background in software engineering with experience in re-architecture projects.
  • Data Management Skills: Deep knowledge of managing large-scale data projects, from architecture to analysis.
  • Vendor Management: Expertise in working with contractors and external consultancies to deliver complex technical projects.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Python and AWS is essential; familiarity with geospatial applications is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Visionary Thinking: Proven track record of aligning technical roadmaps with long-term business objectives.
