Working for fast-growing technology and engineering business based just outside Burton-on-Trent, operating at the intersection of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and global tech distribution. With a turnover of £4 million and ambitions for significant expansion, they've built a reputation for innovation, reliability, and global reach. As they enter our next phase of growth, we’re investing in internal capabilities and seeking a commercially astute Head of Finance to help scale with clarity and confidence.
The Role
This newly created part-time Head of Finance position will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their business. You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team, providing insight, control, and strategic guidance across all financial operations. While they continue to partner with an external accountancy firm, they're now ready to bring much more in-house—from bookkeeping and management accounts to financial planning and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the finance function, providing strategic financial advice to the leadership team
• Own the sales and purchase ledger, ensuring timely and accurate bookkeeping
• Produce monthly management accounts and financial reports
• Drive improvements in financial controls, forecasting, and budgeting processes
• Analyse performance data, identifying areas for cost saving and improved profitability
• Support stock and inventory reporting and valuation (significant stock held on-site)
• Manage relationships with external accountants and auditors
• Play an integral part in commercial and operational decision-making
• Support funding, investment, and cash flow planning as the business grows
About You
This role would suit a hands-on Head of Finance, Financial Controller, or experienced Management Accountant looking for flexibility and impact. You’ll be excited by the prospect of working with an entrepreneurial team in a high-growth SME, and confident rolling up your sleeves to build systems and processes.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent experience)
• Experience in an SME, ideally in tech, engineering, FMCG, or a product-led business
• Commercially minded with strong financial acumen
• Comfortable managing everything from ledger to leadership
• Analytical, proactive, and detail-focused
• Tech-savvy and confident with financial systems and Excel
• Flexible, collaborative, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Ideally available for 20–25 hours per week, with flexibility around school hours or other commitments
