High Voltage Design Engineer Remote UK (North West base welcome) Permanent Competitive (DOE – please enquire)
embs. talent is working with a UK renewable energy business expanding its in-house technical function. They need an HV Design Engineer to work alongside the Senior Technical Manager across their UK distributed generation portfolio — hands-on HV and LV design across solar PV, substations and grid connection projects, with real input into bid work and tender-stage surveys.
This is a remote-first, nationwide role with real ownership across design, bid and site work. You'll work closely with the Senior Technical Manager and have genuine influence over how projects are specified and delivered — not just drafting to someone else's brief.
Remote-first: Work nationwide with a North West base welcome
Real ownership: Genuine influence across design, bid and site work — shaping how projects are specified and delivered
Technical influence: Work closely with the Senior Technical Manager rather than drafting to someone else's brief
Growing function: Join an expanding in-house technical team within a UK renewable energy business
Our client is seeking an experienced HV Design Engineer to take hands-on ownership of HV and LV design across their UK distributed generation portfolio, contributing across design, bid and site work.
In this role you will produce single-line diagrams, protection and grading schemes, cable calculations, earthing designs, switch room layouts and substation arrangements, while supporting bids and tender work with preliminary designs and ROI analysis. You will review and challenge third-party design deliverables against DNO specifications, Grid Code and G99/G100, attend tender-stage site surveys, and progress designs through to construction-ready packages.
Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, together with proven HV design experience on solar PV, HV substations or large electrical infrastructure. You will bring strong working knowledge of UK DNO processes, Grid Code, G99 and G100, competence with ETAP (or equivalent) and AutoCAD/Draftsight, and the ability to deliver HV/LV cable calculations, protection and grading studies, load flow and short-circuit calculations, alongside 18th Edition knowledge.
Desirable, but not essential, would be solar PV/BESS design experience, SolarEdge or string inverter familiarity, PVSyst/PV-SOL/IECO, plant controllers, reactive power systems, and hybrid PV+BESS connection experience.
If you are interested in this remote-first HV design opportunity with genuine ownership across a UK renewables portfolio and believe you meet the illustrated criteria, apply today or enquire in confidence.
