Senior Electrical Engineer Location: Ireland Business Unit: Renewables & Engineering / Power Transmission & Distribution

Recruiting for one of Ireland's foremost critical utility infrastructure service providers, delivering EPC turnkey solutions across Power Transmission & Distribution, Renewables & Engineering, Smart Energy Services, and Telecoms. 

The Role

Looking for a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join their engineering team and contribute to the design, development, and delivery of major electrical infrastructure projects. This is a technically demanding role offering significant scope, autonomy, and the opportunity to work on some of Ireland's most impactful energy transition projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver electrical engineering design across a range of projects including HV/MV/LV substations, overhead line systems, underground cable schemes, windfarms, solar farms, and BESS installations
  • Produce and review electrical designs, calculations, specifications, single line diagrams, protection coordination studies, and equipment schedules
  • Undertake power system studies including load flow, fault level, protection, and earthing analysis using specialist software (e.g. ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or equivalent)
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team
  • Interface with clients, grid operators, DNOs, and statutory bodies on all electrical engineering matters
  • Support grid connection applications and manage technical interfaces with EirGrid and ESB Networks
  • Ensure all electrical designs are compliant with Irish and European standards, Eurocodes, and relevant ESB/EirGrid technical standards
  • Contribute to technical risk assessments, CDM obligations, and HSQE requirements throughout the design lifecycle
  • Support tender preparation, design reviews, and value engineering exercises

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent); postgraduate qualification or Chartered Engineer status (Engineers Ireland / IET) highly desirable
  • Minimum 6–8 years' post-graduate electrical engineering experience, with a focus on utility-scale power or renewables infrastructure
  • Strong design experience across HV/MV systems, substation design, and grid-connected generation
  • Proficiency in power systems analysis software (ETAP, PowerFactory, or equivalent)
  • Thorough knowledge of Irish/European electrical standards and ESB Networks/EirGrid technical requirements
  • Excellent technical communication skills, including report writing and presentation to clients
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team
  • Full clean driving licence
