Associate Director – Protection & Control UK-Wide (Flexible) | 15+ Years' Experience | Senior Leadership

The Opportunity

We're partnering with a leading global engineering consultancy at the forefront of the energy transition to find an experienced Associate Director in Protection & Control. This is a senior technical leadership role with real scope — spanning high-voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems across the UK and Continental Europe.

If you're a seasoned P&C engineer ready to step into a strategic role that combines technical excellence with business development and team leadership, this one is worth your attention.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading FEED and detailed design workstreams for P&C systems across transmission and renewable energy projects
  • Overseeing protection schemes, control philosophies, interface design, and settings coordination
  • Driving quality assurance and on-time delivery across bids, design packages, and client deliverables
  • Building and managing a high-performing P&C engineering team — recruitment, development, and all
  • Contributing to major bids, technical strategy, and resource planning
  • Chairing design reviews, hazard reviews, and technical assurance meetings
  • Managing technical risk and CDM compliance
  • Maintaining and growing key client relationships to support business development

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng or MEng); Chartered Engineer (IET)
  • National Grid CDAE status
  • TP141 Authorisation (or the ability to obtain it)
  • 15+ years in P&C FEED and detailed design at high voltage (132kV–400kV)
  • Strong familiarity with National Grid and SSE design processes and standards
  • Experience across DNOs, BESS, windfarms, and HVDC
  • Proven team leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Commercial awareness and a genuine interest in business growth

The Package & Culture

Our client offers a genuinely competitive package — including private medical cover, enhanced parental leave, professional development support, and a strong commitment to flexible and hybrid working. Location is flexible across multiple UK offices, and part-time arrangements can be considered.

This is a business that takes inclusion, wellbeing, and career development seriously — not just on paper.
