Responsibilities

Our client is seeking a Principal Protection & Control Engineer to lead design delivery across live transmission and renewable energy programmes, combining hands-on technical ownership with client exposure and team development.

In this role you will lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for P&C systems across transmission and renewable energy projects, developing and reviewing interface designs, protection schemes, and control philosophies, and reviewing protection settings, relay coordination, and scheme logic. You will coordinate with back-office engineers, sub-contractors, and suppliers, support tendering activities and contribute to technical bids, and undertake site visits and non-intrusive surveys as required.

Alongside delivery, you will identify and manage technical risks in line with CDM and safety standards, mentor junior engineers and contribute to team capability development, and maintain client relationships while supporting business development.

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng or MEng) and Chartered status, or be actively working towards it (IET), together with National Grid CDAE status. TP141 Authorisation is desirable, or a willingness to obtain it. You will bring 10+ years in P&C FEED and detailed design at high voltage (132kV–400kV), strong knowledge of National Grid and SSE design processes and standards, and experience across DNOs, BESS, windfarms, and HVDC. The ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects and strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.

If you are interested in this senior technical Principal opportunity within Protection & Control and believe you meet the illustrated criteria, apply today or register your interest in confidence.
