Helen Charteris
Practice Director - Global Power & Energy
Dublin, Ireland
£110,000
Established in 2002, our client provides electrical power engineering services to the industrial, commercial, electrical utilities and renewable energy sectors — specialising in MV and LV power. Global Reach Over ten nationalities, with field teams across Ireland, UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Leadership Rapid Growth Revenue close to doubling in the last year, moving into larger utility substation, data centre, BESS and renewables projects.
The Opportunity the business needs a credible engineering lead who understands the ESB system intimately and can represent the company confidently in front of clients. Several of the clients strong engineers come from outside Ireland and are less focused on the customer-facing side. This role bridges that gap: an Irish based engineer with technical depth to lead substation and grid-connection design, plus the presence to manage client relationships directly.
Genuine Scope As the business moves from ~€1m toward €20m+ contracts, this person will own and deliver large projects and develop the engineers around them.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Delivery Lead utility and grid-connection projects up to 110/220kV; oversee and sign off design drawings to a high standard.
Client Ownership Act as the credible, customer-facing point of contact — attend meetings, build relationships and represent the client technically.
Large-Project Bandwidth Comfortable owning and delivering €10–20m+ projects end to end, coordinating commissioning, procurement and delivery.
Team Development Mentor and develop engineers in the team, including supporting less customer-facing colleagues.
Experience & Qualifications
Utility Engineering Background Strong grid-connection engineering experience, having worked up to 110/220kV, with intimate knowledge of the ESB system or a directly comparable utility environment.
Project Track Record Proven experience managing projects and signing off design drawings.
Track record on large projects — €10–20m+ ideal — with the bandwidth to own delivery.
Client-Facing Credibility Comfortable leading client meetings and representing the business.
A relevant electrical / power engineering qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
A genuine team player who can mentor and develop others within a growing, multi-national engineering team.
Key Attributes:
Excellent verbal and written communication, with real confidence in front of clients and stakeholders at all levels.
Attention to Detail Excellent accuracy and ability to work to strict deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
Self-Starter Positive, can-do attitude; takes ownership rather than waiting for direction.
Relationship Builder Ability to build rapport and strong working relationships across all levels.
