embs. talent is working in partnership with a premier utility contractor, specialising in the construction and maintenance of electrical and telecommunications infrastructure, who are expanding their Engineering Team and are currently in the market for a Team Lead – Electrical Design (Substations) to join them on a permanent basis.

Responsibilities
Off the back of continued success and a growing Engineering Team, our client is seeking an experienced substation design professional to take on a senior leadership role on major Power, Renewable and Substation projects.
As Team Lead, you will act as the Substation Technical Expert within the Engineering Team, taking ownership of all elements of electrical substation design — including primary and secondary design, design calculations and procurement specifications. You will identify, manage and coordinate all electrical design requirements and deliverables across substation projects, taking them from feasibility stage through to construction and handover to the client.
You will allocate tasks to team members and monitor progress against cost and programme, reviewing and approving team submissions ahead of issue and identifying value engineering opportunities wherever possible. Working as part of a multidisciplinary design team, you will take responsibility for all aspects of design outputs, review and approve construction work packs before works commence on site, and provide design solutions and technical advice to the operations team as required.
Beyond delivery, you will be involved in technical and strategic decision making, identifying design, construction and commercial risks and proposing mitigation techniques. You will support the tendering department with bid submissions, contribute to business development and client liaison, and identify and follow up on project opportunities as they arise. You will keep abreast of new technologies, build techniques and design innovations to drive improvements in cost, quality and timescales.
As a team leader, you will provide mentoring, support and technical development to team members, carry out annual Performance Development Reviews, and engage with the processes required under the Engineers Ireland Accredited Employer standard, including mentoring, knowledge sharing and CPD identification. Throughout, you will promote a safety-first culture and a safe working environment, ensuring all design outputs meet the required technical, quality and safety standards.
