Technical Lead – Defence Programme (Hybrid – Derby, 3 days onsite)
Employment Type: Contract - 6 months with extensions
Rate £400-£450 Outside IR35
SC Clearance required - British citizen or dual nationality required
Experience working within UK defence, aerospace, or critical infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to support delivery within a secure defence environment in Derby. This role requires a hands-on technical professional, able to operate across multiple architecture domains, while contributing to both high-level design and detailed low-level technical documentation.
The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced, friendly and collaborative delivery team, providing technical leadership across infrastructure, systems integration, and solution implementation. The role requires strong cross-domain awareness, practical engineering capability, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear language for business stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include supporting solution design, producing architecture and technical documentation, guiding implementation teams, and ensuring alignment with security, operational, and delivery requirements typical of regulated defence environments. For the ideal candidate, a broad variety of business systems, hosting infrastructure, and cloud services are all within scope of design, deployment, and implementation.
This position suits someone comfortable balancing architectural thinking with practical technical involvement, who thrives in dynamic programmes and can communicate effectively with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
